Mall West End to be Reborn as One West End

Queue up the CeCe Peniston, baby, because finally, after years of false starts and dashed hopes, the Mall West End has been sold.

The redevelopment of Atlanta’s historic Mall West End marks a transformative era for the community, focusing on preserving its rich heritage while promoting growth and accessibility. This project, newly christened “One West End”, aims to honor the cultural legacy of the West End, a hub of African American business and community life. The redevelopment plan includes 125,000 square feet of retail space featuring a grocery store, fitness center, and local boutiques, alongside 900 mixed-income rental units, most designated as workforce or affordable housing. Additional highlights include affordable commercial spaces for small businesses, student housing, a 150-key hotel, medical offices, and community amenities. This multi-year project, set to begin in 2025, will engage residents and stakeholders throughout the process to maintain the area’s unique character while building a vibrant, inclusive community for future generations.
