Event is FREE but accepts donations.

Over a year ago, residents of Atlanta began signing a petition for a referendum on Cop City. Organizers were (and continue) pushing for a public vote on the City of Atlanta's decision to use taxpayer dollars and lease 85+ acres of public green space to the Atlanta Police Foundation to build a training facility. To date, the Atlanta City Council has still not counted those petitions – even though determining how, whether, and when we do so is in their power. The City is blaming the courts, and organizers are calling it an intentional obstruction of democratic process.

Join us for a panel discussion as we explore how we got here and what's next in the struggle to put Cop City on the ballot amidst a nationwide movement to leverage ballot measures to strengthen democracy and civil rights.

Panelists for the event will be:

  • Ruby-Beth Buitekant, Associate Director of Movement Partnerships for Movement Law Lab

  • Dr. Jacqueline Echols, Board President, South River Watershed Alliance

  • Amir Farokhi, Atlanta City Councilmember, District 2

  • Britney Whaley, Southeast Regional Director for the Working Families Party
