This event is part of WAWA’s “month of programming highlighting people of the historic Bush Mountain, Richland Hills neighborhoods, Black environmentalists and their cultural connections to stewarding the earth.”
From WAWA:
“Follow the drinking gourd to refuge!
Join us on this unique night hike as we reenact experiences on the Underground Railroad.
Led by Ayinde Summers, we will collectively envision the Outdoor Activity Center as it was before 1863, where Africans in bondage would have sought fugitivity from violent nearby plantations of what is now Oakland City and Adair Park neighborhoods.
This is an intense hike and parents, if planning to bring their children, should consider their comfort before registering.”
